China is a big country for coal production and use. Recently, with quickly increasing of civil and industry coal use, tons of fly ash is produced. According to incomplete statistics, in 1995, The amount of fly ash is 125 million tons, to 2000, the amount reached 150 million tons, and the amount will reach 150 million tons in 2010. A large amount of fly ash is piled up, not only holds lots of land but also has a great harm for the environment. So, comprehensive utilization of fly ash is imminent.This paper describes the comprehensive utilization of fly ash in the present situation. The absorption mechanism, mineral composition, physical properties, chemical composition and so on were also summarized. In order to investigate the absorption properties of fly ash in the wastewater further, the fly ash treated by the pretreatment screening was used to treat the jiujiang university organic chemical laboratory high concentration organic wastewater and analytical chemical laboratory methyl orange wastewater. The static absorption experiment and the dynamic absorption experiment were done separately. In static absorption experiment, the amount of fly ash, PH value, temperature, and the size of fly ash were selected as main influencing factors, and defined the adsorption properties of fly ash. In dynamic absorption experiment, the height of fly ash column were mostly discussed.The static experimental results show that the equilibrium time is 40 min, ideal dosage of the fly ash is 0.1g/ml, pH value is 7, the particle size is 180 mesh and in room temperature, in which condition the fly ash treating the high concentration of organic wastewater shows the best results. For the methyl orange wastewater, it can get best results when the equilibrium time is 40 min, ideal dosage of the fly ash is 0.05g/ml, pH value is 7, the particle size is 180 mesh and in room temperature. In the dynamic absorption experiment, the results shew that the higher fly ash column and the smaller size of fly ash, the better absorption ability.Comparing the treatment effect of static experiment with dynamic absorption experiment, the later is better.
