The fly ash and activated fly ash were employed to treat the synthesize wastewater collected from environmental laboratory in a university. The purpose of the study is to dispose wastewater with waste solid and protect water resource from pollution. The source, composition and current treatment of laboratory wastewater are studied. The chemical and physical properties and mineral components of fly ash are also mentioned. The present comprehensive utilization of fly ash is discussed especially in the field of disposal of wastewater. The removal percentages of TN and COD are studied by changing the factors such as dosage, pH value, temperature, adsoption time and particle size of fly ash. The fly ash was activated by acidification, alkali reshaping, limestone reshaping and red mud reshaping, respectively. The fly ash and activation fly ash to treat the synthesize laboratory wastewater were surveyed. The mechanisms of adsorption of activation fly ash were initial studied. The results were shown as follows:(1) The discharge of the synthesize laboratory wastewater is little or discontinuous. While the pH values of wastwater appears acid. The contents of COD, TN, TP were much higher than those of discharge standard values.(2) There were relationship between removal rate and the contaminators concentrations in wastewater with fly ash. Under the low concentration of contaminators condition in wastewater, the removal percentages with fly ash were effectively. For example, the removal efficiency of COD, TN, and TP were 59.65%, 51.74% and 47.03%, respectively. While the removal rate of Cu2+, Pb2+, and Zn2+ reached 83.33%.75.34%, and 54.26%, respectively.(3) The removal efficiencies of polluters in synthesize laboratory wastewater with the activation fly ash were high, even high concentration of contaminant in wastewater. The removal efficiencies of COD, TN, and TP exceeded 70%, especially the removal of TN reach 88.06%. The removal rate of heavy metals such as Cu2+, Pb2+, Zn2+reach 92.31%,80%,100% respectively.
