In this paper, we introduced the nonlinear optical properties of azo-polymers, potential applications and the prospects for the future. With the development of science and research, the rang of application for nonlinear optical effect increasingly wide, and which has gradually been loved by researchers. The application of azo-polymer including optical storage, optical limiting,optical communication, optical switches and so on.In the front part, we mainly introduced the theory and related knowledge about nonlinear material,which is similar with azo materials. For example,current research of nonlinear material,the reason for generating mechanism and measurement method for nonlinear coefficient, where we discussed experimental device and theoretical basis of Z- scanning method specially.Then,this thesis spoke of three experiments and a model study. First, the sample factors which have an effect on photoinduced alignment of push-pull azobenzen photosensitive materials. According to experiment, we investigated photoinduced birefringence in different azo chromophore (DR1, DR13 and DR19) doped in PMMA and we also discussed how different polymer matrix can make effects on the chromophore orientation. Second, orientation thermal relaxation effect about photo-induced molecular of push-pull azobenzene photosensitive material. In the experiment, we use semiconductor laser as the pump source, using He-Ne laser as the detection light, we studied the light responsive relaxation effect of sample under different temperature. Third,the study of push-pull azobenzene photosensitive materials'orientation nonlinear effect by z-scan.Fourth,the orientation of phenomenological model of nonlinear effect in push-pull azobenzene photosensitive materials. Using the random number model, and according to the azo polymer photoisomerization general description, we simulated chromophore orientation process of azo polymer photoisomerization,and discussed the results in detail.
