Shanxi province is famous in China's coal industry, coal gangue is produced during mining. The heavy metals contained in coal gangue without the proper management will make an impact on the environment. In this paper, the data of the chemical composition and leaching test collected from the different regional coal gangue in coal-mining in Shanxi Province, using geostatistical methods and techniques in spatial analysis module of ArcGIS, heavy metals contents in the gangue of different coal-producing areas were analyzed in the space differences. Based on leaching experimental data analysis of heavy metals in gangue, spatial distributions of the six kinds of heavy metals are discussed. The main conclusions are as follows:1.Chemical composition is different to Shanxi coal gangue, but the chemical compositions of the province's coal gangue are all SiO2 and Al2O3 based.2.The pH of leaching solution is mostly neutral and alkaline.3.Coal gangue has a low concentration in the heavy metals contents and does not bring the leaching toxic. But the leaching concentration of Cd and Pb in coal gangue is a little higher.4.The spatial distribution of various heavy metals elements in coal gangue produced in Shanxi shows different characteristics. Such as Cr and Hg contents are high in southeast of Shanxi province, and lower in northwest areas, making a banded-gradient distribution from the content trends and distribution; the content of Zn is higher in the central areas and south-east areas; the content of Cu in south areas is higher than in the north, shows regional differences. But Pb and Cd contents are higher and show a scattered distribution, and its content in various regions shows no obvious spatial distribution.5.Generally speaking, Cr, Hg and Zn have higher content levels of these heavy metals, from coal gangue in southeastern of Shanxi, as to Changzhi areas and Jincheng areas, more attention should be paid to the management of coal gangue.
