Plant community is an important carrier through which urban parks offer recreational services, and c reating va rious re creational spa ces i s a c ore purpose of the construction of green land of urban parks. However, existing research results mainy focused on sight effects and ecological benefits rather than comprehensive research on plant design and recreational function. In this research, typical plant communities of urban parks in Hangzhou were taken as study objects to maximize the recreational effects of plant communities in its c onstruction. O n t he ba sis of understanding of p lant c ommunity characteristics a nd its re creational fun ctions, t he re lational model of recreation a nd plant community structure and o ptimizing mode w ere established , w hich p layed a s ignificant rol e on re alizing t he re creational function of plant community and the landscape design of cities in the future.23 t ypical pl ant c ommunities of 8 urban pa rks i n H angzhou were investigated, with method of French-Swiss schools to study their ecological characters, landscape structures, spatial characters and recreation situation. The results showed that:(1)143 kinds of plants were involved, with the tree accounts for52.4%, the shrub accounts for .24.5% and the herb accounts for 23.1%. The shannonwiener was low and species richness was not high.(2) Most o f p lant c ommunities were"tree-shrub-herb"m ultilayer-community pattern. E vergreen s pecies was more t han de ciduous spe cies. Soft t exture community was in the majority.coverage distribution of trees was mainly in 23 grand and coverage distribution of undergrowth was mainly in 13 grand. Height level distribution of trees was mainly 815m, and DBH distribution of trees was mainly 15 30cm. (3)According t o t he s pace, t hese p lant communities were divided into 4 types: open space type, closed space type, open forest type and covering space type, with 6 communities belonging to the fi rst t ype, 4 t o t he se cond, 7 t o the t hird a nd 6 t o t he l ast. (4) The recreational a ctivity ty pes a nd quantity were different for e ach t ype of communities. The open forest community was the most–uesd type. This re search applied t he RAGA-based PPC model to bui ld a comprehensive r ecreation as sessment s ystem t o ev aluate the r ecreation o f plant community of urban park. The results showed that: (1) The rich degree of activities, sense of security, Vertical levels, recreational quantity and Plane levels i n order ha d gre ater ef fects on t he re creation. (2) The ope n fore st community had the highest average value as its rich spatial levels.(3) The evaluation a nd a nalysis w ere pre sented i n e very di fferent communities t o summarize t he advantages and di sadvantages of c urrent p lant c ommunity construction ,which provided a foundation for the further optimizing mode establishment. Furthermore, t he qua ntitative re lationship of c ommunity s tructure a nd recreation w as r esearched: ( 1) tree DBH, c ommunity , texture, community definition, community boundary, vertical level and plane level were selected as th e main f actors to establish multiple q uantification model:Y=-2.127-0.025X2-1+0.027X2-3+0.093X2-4 +0.071X3-2+0.3275X3-3+0.477X4-1-0.605X4-3+0.669X6-1+0.588X6-2+0.410 X7-1+0.634X7-3+0.343X8-2+0.003X8-3. Via controlling t he magnitude o f community e lements, specific recommendations were made f rom t ree age management, t exture construction, c ommunity bounda ry a nd s patial structures. (2) 4 spatial characteristic elements: coverage degree, enclosure degree, D/H and area were calculated and spatial privacy was quantified by SD method. An equation: Y=2.186 X1 + 2.184 X2 -0.425 X3 - 0.001 X4 - 1.756 (R2 = 0.907)was made by a mathematics model of multiple linear regression to guide and control the space division. The remaining work was on t he base of i nvestigation, assessment, and modeling above, to make optimization recommendations to different types of communities f rom physiognomy, s tructures and space devision, and so me optimizing planting modes were submitted, which can provide scientific and practical reference for plant community design of urban parks.
