Chengdu-Kunming Railway goes across the southeast of Sichuan and north of Yunnan vertically. Most part along the railway is alp, canyons and large revivers. Hence the terrain along this railway is complicated and rugged. Along with the influences of repeated tectonic movements, the geology is very complex, resulting in various hazardous geologic phenomena such as rock fall, landslide and debris flow. Thus this section is known as "Museum of Geology".North Section of Chengdu-Kunming Railway (from Emei to Xichang), as the area with the most severe debris flow, has suffered many debris flow disasters since its operation, causing burying of railway and stations, destroying bridges and culverts, and roadbed, almost every year, the railway will be broken and cease its service, which influence the national economy and social development severely.Taking the 33 hazardous debris flow cloughs on the north section of Chengdu-Kunming Railway as the research object, based on wide information collection and field investigation, this paper summarizes the geological conditions in the target area, and explores the distribution law and development features of debris flow on the north section of Chengdu-Kunming Railway. Moreover, it establishes Index System of Comprehensive hazard Evaluation, grade criteria of evaluation indices and the weight of the evaluation factors based on fuzzy rough set theory. The hazard of each debris flow along the railway is evaluated by using fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method.Giving consideration to the large quantity and huge data of the debris flow at the north section of Chengdu-Kunming Railway, for the convenience of debris flow data management, this paper particularly focuses on introduction of database of debris flow along Chengdu-Kunming Railway which is developed based on VB. At the same time, in order to make preliminary judgment on the hazard of the debris flow more quickly and conveniently, an automatic evaluation sub-system of debris flow hazard is inlaid in the database system based on fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. This paper offers a quantitative and qualitative research on the debris flow on the north section of Chengdu-Kunming Railway, which contributes positively to the quantitative analysis of railway debris flow hazard evaluation, provides new computation methods for huge data management of debris flow cloughs along Chengdu-Kunming Railway as well as the fast evaluation of each debris flow clough, and affords basis for future disaster management to the railway sector. Furthermore, the research result can also serve as reference for geological disaster investigation and hazard evaluation of other railways or highways which show frequent disaster occurrences.
