With the development of the economy, the world energy consumption is estimated to rise considerably over the next decades and in the same period the energy consumption in China will increase by almost a similar amount. Energy problem is becoming a global hot issue. The ocean covers 71% of the earth surface, and it contains large amount of renewable energy which are wind energy, tidal energy, wave energy, tidal current energy, thermal energy, salinity energy. Wave energy is an abundant renewable resource in China, which is starting to be exploited by several domestic research institutions and universities. It is benefit for sustainable development and environment-friendly society.Wave energy develops fast these years. Wave energy conversion technology is in pilot phase, energy transmission technology becomes mellow, and network technology still needs to be improved. Feasibility evaluation is essential when developing wave energy. A lot of research has been done in the field of assessing reserves and distribution of wave energy in China, but few researches are about feasibility evaluation of wave energy, or the research has been done from only economic or environmental aspect. This thesis extensive collections domestic and international wave energy studies results, tries to put forward a framework of wave energy feasibility evaluation by using SWOT analysis method. Integrality of the framework is verified from the feasibility evaluation analysis of wave energy in China.Chapter one is an introduction. The chapter describes state of wave energy research field. Considerable progress has been made over the past decade in using wave energy in China, but few researches are about feasibility evaluation of wave energy.Chapter two is the introduction about wave energy in China. Detailed description of wave resource and wave energy resource is introduction by using satellite data from Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES).Chapter three is principle and device development of wave energy generation. Summarizes the principle and definition of wave energy generation, and provide domestic and international overview of the wave energy generation development.Chapter four is SWOT analysis of wave energy. SWOT represents strength, weakness, opportunity and threats. By analyzing the development of wave energy generation and the current problems, summarized the strength, weakness, opportunity and threats of wave energy utilization.Chapter five is feasibility evaluation of wave energy in China. A framework of wave energy feasibility evaluation is put forward. Integrality of the framework is verified from the feasibility evaluation analysis of wave energy in China. The feasibility evaluation analysis of wave energy is constituted from the feasibility of requirement, resource, environment, technology, economy and policy.Chapter six is recommendation for wave energy utilization. Some suggestion has been made.
