In 1987, E. Yablonovitch and S. John proposed the concept of photonic crystals independently. In 1991, Yablonovitch produced the first piece of a complete photonic band gap of the three-dimensional photonic crystal in experiment. Since then, photonic crystal research was in rapid progress. Photonic crystals are dielectric constant of different media in one-dimensional, two-dimensional or three-dimensional structure of the formation of periodically arranged. The one-dimensional photonic crystals were got more attention in different research areas, due to its advantages of easy preparation and excellent optical performance of the control mode of transmission.First, the structures, characteristics and research status of photonic crystal were introduced in this paper。At the same time, the applications and problems of photonic crystal in sensors were introduced.Second, the common calculation methods of photonic crystals were compared. The advantages and disadvantages were analyzed. And the transfer matrix method was defined to study one-dimensional photonic crystals in this article.Third, the model of one-dimensional photonic crystal was constructed. The calculation and simulation of one-dimensional photonic crystal were studied by using transfer matrix method and MATLAB. The lattice period, medium dielectric constant, dielectric fill factor (location of the center frequency band, band gap), and other parameters on the transmission characteristics of one-dimensional photonic crystal were studied. The simulations and results were summarized and analyzed at the same time.Fourth, the defect one-dimensional photonic crystal was constructed and simulated by using MATLAB.When the thickness of defect layer and the fill factor changes, the defect mode and reflection spectra were studied. According to the improved model, the reflection spectrum and the variation of defect, the defect one-dimensional photonic crystal liquid level sensors and liquid refractive index sensors were designed. At the same time, the sensitivity of the sensor was given. Finally, One-dimensional photonic quasicrystals were constructed in Fibonacci sequences, calculated by MATLAB.The transmission properties of Fibonacci quasicrystals were studied. And band gap changes between the Fibonacci one-dimensional photonic quasicrystals with the classical periodic one-dimensional photonic were analyzed. Some methods and experience in photonic quasicrystals were proposed.
