In recent years China's solar thermal industry showing a trend of rapid development, during the 90s in the 20th century the solar thermal industry had a fairly large scale, the annual growth rate has remained at around 20% in 2009, and the production and ownership of solar water heater, respectively, had arrived 4200×104m2 and 14500×104m2. China's solar thermal industry can be described as a monolith, occupied more than half of world total, mainly the vacuum tubes are used in the solar water heaters, but the energy efficiency of.the conventional solar water heater solar is low, this paper, we will propose a creative solution to the problem of low efficiency.In the irradiation of in the visible light, the absorptivity of water molecules is around 0.1, but exposured to the infrared light, the absorptivity of water molecules is 104 to 106, if we can converted the visible light to infrared light, and using infrared light to heat water, Its efficiency should be very high, and its practical applications will be enormous. the energy transmission of optical fiber is high efficiency and the dye can shift the wavelength, so we seek to manufacture a dye doped polymer optical fiber. In the paper, our mainly work is as follows:the synthesis of the slice and the optical fiber performs, analysis of the dye doping concentration and the performance of different dye, the design and manufacturing of fiber drawing furnace, measuring the transmission and emission spectra of fiber and slice.We first synthesized PMMA by bulk polymerization, then explored the main factors which affected the synthesis of PMMA by the orthogonal design, and get a suitable synthetic formulation and process route. Then added different dyes to the mixture by the pre-polymerization, after the synthetic is successful, we test its optical performance. Second, we need to design the fiber drawing system, including the design of the furnace which should be maintain at the constant temperature and the design of the mechanical movement device to send rod and to draw fiber. Finally, we have to test the transmission spectrum and the emission spectrum of the optical fiber.
