The concept "type of operation "was originally proposed by Japanese scholars, and much achievements have been got. Because type of operation is new to our country , many companies haven't mastered the main meaning of it and many problems are still exist. In order to instruct companies to select type of operation correctly, a set of scientific and useful technology and method is required in theory .This thesis provides the new meaning of "type of operation "after reviewing the external definition. Life style theory is put forward on the basis of analyzing the traditional retailing reform theory, so there is great improvement in theory .The three methods about selection on the types of operation are proposed after analyzing the economic characters of some main retailing types of operation and the facts influencing the selection of type of operation .At last , this thesis discusses the situation of type of operation in china .The whole thesis is divided into seven parts.As the introduction, part one introduces the reason why the author chose the topic first, the comments on the documents in this field and raises the particularity of the thesis.Part two discusses the concept of "type of operation" first, then puts forward the Life style theory on the basis of analyzing the traditional retailing reform theory.In part three, the author analyses the economic characters of some main retailing types of operation which lay the foundation for the following parts.In part four, the author discusses some facts influencing the selection of type of operation on the utility theory basis.Part five puts forward the three methods on selecting the types of operation ,ie. competition oriented selection method, company oriented selection method and consumption oriented selection method.Part six gives out the situations of the types of operation in china first ,then puts forward the existed problems and at last ,gives out policy suggestions. Part seven reviews the main arguments of the thesis.
