This paper designs a ROF(Radio over Fiber) system simulation platform. By combining the advantages of coherent optical communication and remote coherent optical heterodyne detection technology, carrier with very high frequency can be produced. Furthermore, combined the ROF system with advanced technology (OFDM modulation technology) together, the system's performance is greatly improved.This article first employs OptiSystem software to build a ROF system simulation platform, uses a remote optical heterodyne detector(RHD) generating millimeter wave signal. Then it analyses the system's performance, employs dispersion compensation technique to compensate the performance detriment caused by fiber dispersion using a particular length of dispersion compensating fiber. It compares the performance difference between the system and that of post-dispersion compensation.Subsequently, combined ROF system with OFDM technology, we designed a simulation system of OFDM-ROF technique, fabricated OFDM modulation and demodulation modules using MATLAB. Similarly, because multi-carrier systems are even more sensitive to damage caused by fiber dispersion and other nonlinear effects, the system's performance will suffer. In this regard, the OFDM modulation design takes pilot insert technique for exact estimation, in order to support better channel compensation. Results shows that after channel compensation, the system performance greatly improved.Finally, it designed optical carrier RF communication systems using air channel. The system combines ROF technology and space optical communications technology together, achieving the role of'the Last Mile', thus has great prospects for development and practical value.
