LTE (Long Term Evolution) is proposed by 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) which have produced Technical Specification and Technical Reports for 3G Mobile System, for meeting the increasing demand of high data rate for multimedia services. The LTE mobile communication system is forward to improve the spectral efficiency, data rate and the propagation delay. With combining the MIMO and OFDM advanced antenna transmission technology, it can support 20MHz system bandwidth, 200Mbit/s peak data rate and 1 millisecond transmission time interval. It is very necessary to research the key technology. So the centralization of this dissertation is the channel estimation technology of LTE downlink channel.For LTE adopting MIMO and OFDM to improve its performance in physical layer, it is very important to analyze the principle for researching the channel estimation algorithms. This dissertation briefly introduces the main characters of MIMO and OFDM, and researches the algorithms of channel estimation and interpolation.According to the LTE Technical Specification, this dissertation sets up the wireless electromagnetic propagation models using the characters in the specification. And the LTE downlink system including the transmitter and receiver is set up for simulation the channel estimation algorithm and interpolation algorithm under the condition of each channel model, including LS, MMSE and LMMSE. The output of simulation is briefly described, and the advantage and disadvantage of each algorithm is compared objectively.Finally, the algorithms of channel estimation and interpolation whose complexity is accepted are realized on the platform of MSC8156 multi-core DSP from Freescale. The results show that the algorithms are effective and feasible for engineering application.
