With the development of microwave theory, microwave and radio systems have becoming more and more important for military and civilian application. Thus, more attentions have been paid to design and realize new microwave systems and to improve the performance of existing ones.As the most important factor which affects the whole system's performance, the design of microwave component brings many concerns. Septum polarizer is a key component for the radio front end of direct broadcasting satellite communication. The first part of this dissertation proposes a new design procedure for high performance and large tolerance septum polarizer. In addition, this dissertation proposes an effective optimization function which is used later to develop an automatic polarizer optimizer. Optimized result for the polarizer which shows satisfied tolerance demonstrates the ability of the automatic polarizer optimizer. Test results show that this optimized septum polarizer meets the needs of the design specifications.The main research contents of the second part of this dissertation are based on a kind of newly developed radar for object detection in highly clustered environment. In order to realize this radar at minimum cost, a time-divided multi-channel technique is proposed. Also, self-design central control software is developed based on the existing hardware platform to realize information acquisition and imaging analyzing automation. At last, this dissertation does a preliminary research on 3D EM-TRM imaging technique. Image got from the system shows a promising future of this research.The innovation work shown in this dissertation can be summarized as follows:1. Proposed a new polarizer design method. This method has been successfully employed to a Ku band circular waveguide septum polarizer design.2. Proposed one kind of optimization function and algorithm for septum polarizer. This function is then been used to realize automatic polarizer optimization software.3. Proposed polarizer testing solution. This solution enables the polarizer performance to be evaluated by overall antenna performance. 4. Substitute real-time multi-antenna receiving system required by the EM-TRM algorithm with time-divided multi-channel technique. This technique effectively reduces the cost of the whole radar system.5. Central control software development. This software realizes the information acquisition and imaging analyzing automation.6. Preliminary research on 3D EM-TRM imaging. Adjustment has been made to the system which enables the system to generate a 3D image of the unknown object.
