Examination is a typical method to evaluate student's ability. However classical examinations evaluate examinees'ability by a uniform test paper on scheduled time and places, which cannot reflect examinees'ability comprehensively and objectively.Computerized Adaptive Test (CAT) is a new examination method based on Item Response Theory (IRT). CAT can evaluate examinees'ability according to their answers continuously. At the same time, CAT adjusts composing strategies of examination paper and generates questions suitable to examinees timely. So it can evaluate examinees'ability objectively. CAT has some advantages on test time and test results. College computer is a subject whose aim is to improve student's ability of operating computer. Student's ability of operation computer cannot be evaluated perfectly by classical examination methods. Therefore, the research on IRT-based CAT system of college computer course has important practical and theoretical significance.This thesis investigates IRT comprehensively, designs and implements an IRT-based Computerized Adaptive Testing System (CC-CATS), according to the requirements of collage computer course. This system is consists of management subsystem and test subsystem. The management subsystem includes: maintaining the question database, maintaining the information of examinees, maintaining adaptive parameters management, etc. The examination subsystem includes: system log in/out, registration, initialization of question parameters, adaptive composition of examination paper, evaluation of examinees'ability, queries about test results, etc.The system adopts 3-parameter logistic model to describe the relationship between item features and the particular level of examinees. The system evaluates the examinee's ability according to difficulty coefficient of questions and examinees'answer, and then choose the questions which suitable for examinees'ability. Finally, CC-CATS is implemented by ASP.NET on Visual Studio.Net platform.
