Recently, Cognitive radio (CR), which is a promising technology to fully exploit the under-utilized licensed spectrum resource, is considered as"the next big bang"in wireless communication. CR can improve the spectrum utilization and solve the problem of scarcity of the radio spectrum resource. How to sense licensed spectrum? How to effectively use the idle spectrum of licensed network? How to make cognitive radio network to work efficiently? These issues are important to the study of cognitive radio technology. This paper mainly aimed at two related cognitive radio research direction: multi-channel MAC protocol and simulation platform.In cognitive radio network, multi-channel MAC protocol can solve the problem of the multiple users to share multiple spectrum bands. In chapter 2, firstly, traditional multi-channel MAC protocols in wireless network are classified and compared. This article introduces the advantage and disadvantage of different types of protocol. Combining the characteristics of cognitive radio network, difficulties of designing multi-channel MAC protocol in cognitive radio network are proposed. Through the analysis of existing typical researches in multi-channel MAC protocol, the directions of future work are proposed.In this paper, a novel multi-channel MAC protocol in cognitive radio network is proposed in chapter 3. System model, design flow and performance of this protocol are introduced and analyzed. This protocol, based on dedicated control channel protocol, can solve the problem of hidden terminal, exposed terminal and multi-channel hidden terminal. An effectively estimation method for the bottleneck problem of dedicated control channel protocol is proposed, which can be effective in reducing the impact of network throughput because of bottleneck of dedicated control channel. The protocol uses a channel, power and rate adaptive algorithm. The simulation shows that this algorithm can effectively improve throughput of cognitive radio network, reduce packet loss rate, packet average delay time and average energy consumption per bit.Simulation platform is also one of fundamental work of CR research. Excellent simulation platform can greatly enhance the effectiveness and correctness of the research. In chapter 4, this paper briefly describes the hierarchical spectrum sharing network (HSSN) and designs a simple simulation platform for HSSN. The design idea, simulation scenarios, simulation process and functions of main modules are introduces in this article. A simulation example shows that this platform can basically meet the simulation needs of algorithms and protocols of HSSN and be able to measure the performance of HSSN, some function modules are also typical.In chapter 5, I make a summary of this paper and the next step research proposals are introduced.
