As the network camera (or called IPCAM) market gradually spread and the requirements of the image quality of surveillance equipment has improved, the High-Definition network camera emerge as the times require. The HD IPCAM has the ability to shoot 720P, even 1080P HD video, however, how to transmit the HD video to the client without faults and delay, is a key issue to be resolved.H.264 video encoding is commonly used to encode the video from network camera, and has been widely used in video stream transmission in network, because of its low bit-rate, good image quality and good network supporting features. Therefore, the transmission of H.264 video is a key point of whether the HD network camera can become the next generation surveillance equipment, but also the focus of this thesis.Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) is an application layer network protocol, mainly used to transmit real-time video or audio information, and widely used in audio and video conference and multicast audio conference. The RFC3984 document describes the RTP payload format for H.264 video. To transmit H.264 video over RTP is a good solution for the transmission problem of H.264 video and is the key feature of this thesis. This thesis talks about the research of real-time transmission of High-Definition video stream encoded in H.264, based on the A2 IPCAM of Ambarella Company. The major work in this thesis is to implement the "RTP Payload Format for H.264 Video" as described in RFC3984 document, including the Single Nal Unit Packet, STAP-A, STAP-B, MTAP16, MTAP24, FU-A and FU-B. Based on this implementation, the transmission of H.264 HD video of A2 IPCAM using RTP transport protocol in wired and wireless LAN network environments has been tested. It is confirmed that, the real-time 720P H.264 HD video stream in RTP packet can be played smoothly in the LAN environment. This result has great practical value for the use of HD IPCAM in surveillance.
