Along with the rapid development of national economy and the continuous improvement of people's living standards, electrical equipments and electricity demands in industrial production and family life continue to grow, thus to improve power efficiency and to reduce power pollution, has become a widespread research topic. Active Power Factor Correction (APFC) technology can solve the problems concerned above, however, the shortcoming of the traditional power factor correction circuits based on discrete components appears to be apparent, not only inefficient, bulky, also costly. The research and development of the BCD-based integrated circuit and chip of the power factor correction have become one of the most favorable research topics, which can not only achieve the miniaturization of the circuit, but also have more practical values and broad market prospect.The contribution of this dissertation mainly consists of three aspects. Firstly introduces the basic concepts related to power factor, compares and analyzes various power factor correction methods, and the advantages and disadvantages of various control schemes, and on this basis, the critical conduction mode scheme is selected, which has obvious advantages, such as power factor is high and control scheme is simple, etc. Secondly, the extraction and classification of the circuits of reference chips was completed, and the circuit structure and their advantages and disadvantages were analyzed in detail. Based on the above research conclusion, increased the coefficient of multiplier, optimized the error amplifier's frequency response, and introduce a structure of overall circuit. Finally, using 0.5 um BCD process, design and simulate each module circuit in Cadence's software, Spectre. The simulation results show that the circuit design meets the system's requirements. Finished the layout design in Virtuoso.Simulation results of the system show that the overall design of this dissertation realized power factor correction, that is the waveform of the input current and the input voltage has the same frequency and phase, and the output voltage reaches 400V and its ripple is small,and power-output is 80W.
