Signal Generator is one of the most important general instruments in the field of development of electronic industry and manufacture, etc. It can generate a great deal of signals with different amplitude and different frequency. Digital Direct Frequency Synthesis (DDS) is a kind of advancing method to develop electonic circuit. Signal generator,designed by DDS,have much advantage,such as agile controlling, high freqency resolution,continuing phase,quickly switching speed, lower noise of phase,and producing arbitrary waveform.The thesis introduces the basic theories of Direct Frequency Synthesis and technology of developing FPGA device. Based on DDS and FPGA technology, the software and hardware of signal generator are analyzied detailedly, and product designing and testing are completed. The sample signal generator can can output a sine wave,a triangle wave,a sawteeth wave,or a square wave within the frequency range which is requiried by user.The main work of this paper includes following:1. Analyze requirement of the signal generator, and select a suitable scheme to implement.2. Based on the theories of Direct Frequency Synthesis, the method of carrying out the signal generator is described in detail, and the FPGA hardware is designed.3. The work flow of the software, which is used to operate this signal generator, is introduced.4. The function and performance of the prototype are tested, and the results are analyzed.The simulating testing results for the prototype machine show that the specifications meet the design requirements. The testing result is shown in the paper.
