| As the P2P live media streaming becomes more and more popular on the internet, it takes a large number of traffic in ISP's network. Many ISPs deploy cache servers to relieve the traffic stress, but it take little effect on P2P live media streaming which have varies and private application level protocols. There are some ways that adopted by some ISPs for identifying P2P (including P2P video streaming) traffic, but most of them are based on the traffic characterization, and focus on intercepting and restriction. Although these methods can relieve the traffic stress at a certain degree, the P2PLVS user's experience will also be impacted. This paper analyzes the working mechanism of some popular Mesh based P2PLVS systems, and propose an application level protocol based improvement scheme for P2PLVS in LAN. Using cache, resource redirection, and some other methods, this scheme can integrate the P2PLVS resources inside a LAN and effectively reduce the traffic cost outside the LAN. Besides, it can also improve P2PLVS users' experience in the aspects of partner peers quality and playback delay. Prototype system based experiments show that, when there are a certain number of P2PLVS peers with relatively concentrated programs inside a certain LAN, this scheme can bring a significant improvement on network traffic cost and P2PLVS users' experience. |
