Character Recognition Technology For The Intelligent Reader

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology has been an important direction in the computer practical application, the Optical Character Recognition technology combine with the ordinary camera for portable intelligent reading implement, to facilitate the visual obstacle "see" the book. With the rapid development of digital image technology and the Pattern Recognition widely used in many areas, adopting text recognition algorithm based on the image preprocessing technique to solve practical problems turn into all-right scheme. Based on objective conditions of the images camera collected and the characteristics of character images, It is the main content of this article that how to use image analysis technology and pattern recognition methods to achieve character recognition.In this paper, the study includes image acquisition, image preprocessing and character recognition. Image acquisition includes collection and storage; pretreatment section includes gray image, binary, text segmentation and normalization which is divided into size normalization and stroke width normalization; identification part divided into feature extraction and pattern recognition. During the process of the research, first use the camera to capture and store the image, then study and experiment the common image pre-processing algorithm, according to the actual characteristics of the images collected, through the experimental comparison and analysis, select the best image processing method in favor of feature extraction, finally match the character recognition according to the extracted features which will ensures the accuracy of identification.In the test part, use the identification method proposed in this paper to identify and analyze the image of text. The result shows that a series of algorithms used in this article carry out automatic recognition of text images with high accuracy. Meanwhile, the paper brings forward design scheme used for intelligent character recognition reading system and settle foundation for the future further research.
