To meet the precision and high-performance requirements of navigation computer,which is used for Doppler/SINS integrated navigation system of military helicopters, this paper provides a new design of navigation computer for military helicopters based on DSP (TMS320C6713) and FPGA(Spartan-3E XC3S500E).Based on the analysis of characteristics of Doppler/SINS integrated navigation system model and system requirements for its hardware platform, a full design of navigation computer based on FPGA and DSP is proposed, which uses DSP for the calculation of integrated navigation system and FPGA to expand and complete its external communication interfaces because of its powerful internal resources. On the establishment of overall design, including hardware and software for the navigation computer, the proper DSP and FPGA chips are selected, after that, key technics are studied and developed of various functional modules, including FPGA-based data communication module, DSP-based processor module and data storage module, meanwhile, a serious of simulation and verification have been done during the development process; Finally, an associated experiment of the proposed design is carried out and the vehicle test of the system is finished at the same time. The results show that the designed system can full meet the requirements, it can receive information such as IMU angular rate and acceleration, Doppler velocity and other information in a real time, meanwhile, it can finish the calculation task which uses information of IMU, Doppler, GPS, AHRS and altimeter to generate the current position, attitude and other navigation data correctly, besides, it can also achieve the function of communication between navigation computer and electronic and control devices of airplanes.The results of many associated experiment and vehicle tests show that the designed navigation computer can effectively improve the computing precision and realize the requirements of high performance, small size and low cost,it has a high value for applications.
