Ball and beam system is a typical nonlinear and unstable system; it is widely used in Automatic Control Theory teaching and experimental study. It is very important for designing new control method and verifying its rapidity and stability and accuracy. In this paper, the digital simulation model of the ball and beam system based on LabVIEW is established by dynamic analysis and programming. It provides powerful mathematical tool for studying the dynamic characteristics of the ball and beam system. Main work is done as below:1. The mathematical model of the ball and beam system is established by vector analysis and theorem of moment of momentum. It includes kinematics model and dynamic model of four-bar linkage. The inertia force of the ball and its influence to system are considered.2. The paper designs the digital simulation program of the system by LabVIEW. The coefficients of the ball and beam differential equations are obtained by mathematical operation dynamically. The model is nonlinear differential equation system with variable coefficients; the simulation is realized by multiple loop structure dynamically.3. The paper completes the visualization of motion process by converting Solidworks 3D model to LabVIEW.4. The control system based on NI-cRIO is realized; the interference of ball position signal is large, and the paper designs the Kalman Filter. The control is well done by three-loop PID control.5. The control system is used as the Ball and Beam system measurement and control experimental platform. The result of simulation and experiment is compared in the paper, they match very well.
