Wireless sensor network (WSN) which involved in sensor technology, network communication technology, wireless transmission technology, embedded technology, distributed information processing technology, microelectronic technology, software programming technology, is a highly multi-disciplinary cross, emerging, cutting-edge hot area of research. Target tracking as an important application of wireless sensor networks in the field of military and civilian has a broad application prospects. The moving target positioning and tracking technology based on wireless sensor networks has become a hot spot of the present study. In order to efficiently use network capacity to ensure the accuracy of target tracking, the key technologies of target tracking should be studied.In this paper, the key technologies of target tracking based on WSN were researched on the background of vehicle tracking in plains. The points of the research focused on the target detection problem before target emerge, single-target positioning algorithm, as well as nodes awakening in the course of tracking, and Matlab-based simulation system is constructed. Specific research works can be divided into the following:(1)After the analysis of traditional wireless sensor network architecture and the characteristics of the target tracking application, a kind of wireless sensor network architecture for target tracking is set up.(2)After the research of the main algorithms and classification about target tracking based on wireless sensor networks, analysis of improvement for target detection and target localization algorithm has done.(3)In order to cut down the energy consumption used in the task of target detection, the patrol method is proposed as a kind of detection strategy; By improving the original weighted centroid positioning algorithm, the virtual coordinates positioning algorithm is given, so as to improve the target tracking accuracy. (4)The simulation experiments of single-object tracking has been carried out, the results show that the target tracking accuracy has been further enhanced to meet the basic requirements of the practical application .
