The development of wireless sensor networks makes its applications increasingly widespread, moving target tracking is one of the most important applications. It is an important research for warehousing logistics, environmental monitoring, road traffic areas and military target tracking. In this paper, we research moving target tracking based on wireless sensor networks.First of all, access to a number of related papers in the literature, we summarize the status of target tracking on the wireless sensor networks at home and abroad. The characteristics of the wireless sensor networks are summarized from the topology and routing protocol perspective. We also study the sensor network nodes, the tracking strategy and the process of target tracking. In addition, hardware modules and software systems are also introduced.Then, we research a multilateral algorithm for target location, the algorithm uses a least-squares algorithm and a weighted least squares algorithm. Through simulation, multilateral algorithm has a higher accuracy than other algorithms. Two common trajectory prediction algorithms- piecewise linear fitting algorithm and sliding window polynomial fitting algorithm ,are also discussed. Simulation result shows that piecewise linear fitting algorithm has advantage of accuracy.The nonlinear non-Gaussian problems which exist in target tracking are studied. Auxiliary particle filter and Gauss particle filter are discussed because of particle degradation in particle filter. The simulation confirms. Auxiliary particle filter is more complex but higher accuracy than particle filter, and Gauss particle filter is easier and more accuracy than particle filter.Finally, we designed a target tracking experiment for wireless sensor networks, and a database based on MySQL is established as a data query system for target tracking. We can obtain the final results and the value of magnetic field from the experiment. The simulation result shows the system is effective for target tracking.
