Image Fusion is combining images or image sequence signals that get from two or more sensors at the same time(or different time)into a new single image.This new image can't get from any single senor. Multi-focus image fusion is is an important branch of image fusion technology. It can solve the problem that to make all the objects focused in the same scene. It is widely used in these areas such as machine vision, digital camera and object recognition and so on.The article first introduces the background and theory of image fusion, gives some quality assessments of image fusion, and then put emphases on the multi-focus image fusion algorithm based on wavelet transform. On the basis of image fusion algorithm based on wavelet, this paper puts an adaptive multi-scale image fusion algorithm based on wavelet. Because of different regions in the source image used different fusion methods in high-frequency band. Its performance is tested to be superior to the congeneric algorithms. Contourlet transform and its application to image fusion are systemically studied in this paper. Using the multi-scale and multi-direction decomposition character of contourlet transform, an adaptive multi-scale image fusion algorithm based on contourlet is proposed. The experiment shows that this algorithm performs better than the multi-focus fusion algorithm in wavelet domain.
