In the microwave and millimeter-wave system, the performance of the up-converters plays a key role in the whole system. The theory and design of some millimeter-wave up-converters and frequency multipliers are researched in this dissertation. The major job in this paper is to manufacture a milli-meter wave up-convert system for a lab as a milli-meter wave feed source, which has 40 transmitter channels. Its function is to convert a C-band signal into Ka-band. The input local oscillator signal is provided by crystal oscillator. Two 16 times frequency multiplier modules are used to realize 256 times frequency multiple. And there still is a frequency doubler in the up-convert module. The signal will finally be converted into a Ka band signal. This system is used in a laboratory as a signal source. We multiply the input signal directly, because the phase noise of the input crystal oscillator is excellent. To restrain the harmonics yielded by the multiplier, we have inserted narrow-band filters and isolators into the circuit. These measures can reduce interference brought by the feedback signal of the amplifier. According to the frequency of the LO system, we divided the whole LO system into two subsystems, and fixed them in different cavities. In addition, for the phase and amplitude coherence of all the 40 channels of output LO signals, we divided the LO signal at the Ku-band but not the Ka-band, and then multiply it into the Ka-band separately. The results of the test demonstrated that the system has a good performance in the linearity, dynamic range, isolation and the coherence of the amplitude. The electrical performances all satisfy the target requirements.
