SAR research is a very hot topic recently. And the research about SAR is nearly perfect. But it can't focus the targets which are in front of it is its defect. This defect can be offset by Bistatic SAR which has special transmit and receive style. The Bistatic SAR which focus the targets in front of receiver is defined Forward-looking Bistatic SAR. Forward-looking Bistatic SAR is very good in some aspects like capability of hidden , high security, super reconnaissance and so on. These advantages are very useful in military and the populace area.The research about Site-looking Bistatic SAR is nearly ripe. This paper need to draw on the experience of Site-looking research styles. Mainly work as follows.1. The principle of Bistatic SAR is explained in many aspects. Including the geometry mode, echo mode and resolution research.2. The principle of Forward-looking Bistatic SAR is analyzed based on the common Bistatic SAR. The principle includes imaging principle,range history, Doppler characteristic and resolution. The imaging principle was proved in many ways, and the reason why SAR can not focus the targets which are in front of it was proved. At the same time,the conditions of Forward-looking Bistatic SAR equivalent to Squint-looking are analyzed .3. Through the analysis of Forward-looking Bistatic SAR space resolution,many parameters which affect Forward-looking Bistatic SAR space resolution are analyzed. Then in the background of two modes, it analyzed the affect of Bistatic SAR space resolution by every parameter alone. And simulations are made to prove the analysis. At last,the best flying mode was found in the two modes.4. Imaging algorithm is discussed. The RD algorithm is improved to be suitable for Forward-looking Bistatic SAR. It add second range compression,azimuth shift correction and geometry correction. At last, simulation was made to prove the algorithms right and suitable.
