In microwave and millimeter-wave systems, receiving front-ends play critical roles for the whole system performance. The theory and design for 3mm integrated receiving front-end are discussed in this dissertation. This text is on the basis of introducing microwave solid state components and basic theories of receiver in detail, develop W band hybrid integrated receiving components, finish the designs and measurement of the system.At the beginning of this paper, chapter 1 presents a brief introduction the characteristics of the millimeter-waves and the development tendency of the millimeter-wave integrated circuits. Then, the development of receiving front-ends and the background of millimeter-wave implication are introduced.Chaper 2 presents a brief introduction about the basic knowledge of receiving theory. Based on the principle and main technical indicators of radar receiver, the detailed schematic diagram and component index estimation of 3mm integrated receiving front-end are discussed.Chapter 3 is concerned with passive circuits of this project, including waveguide -fin line-microstrip probe transitions and a novel structure of waveguide-to-microstrip line transition. The new transition shows good performance after simulated and tested. Concerned bandpass and lowpass filter used in this paper is presented.Chapter 4, chapter 5, chapter 6 and chapter 7 are about principles, characteristics and designs of solid circuits used in the project, including U band solid source, 3mm double multiplier, 3mm LNA amplifier and 3mm fundamental mixer, et al. The needed chips parameters were given.Finally, the 3mm receiving front-ends system is assembled and tested. Measurement results shows technical specifications could meet the requirement. The entire job could provide the relevant experience for future research in this field.
