Image edge detection is one of the most important steps in image processing, which is the basic of three-dimensional modeling in virtual surgery system. Human figures images are usually multi-objective image. Parameters contour model can not deal with this problem. The problem of multi-objective image segmentation to is a bottleneck in a virtual surgery system.We propose an image segmentation method based on field analysis to solve the problem of multi-objective image segmentation. First of all, the generating mechanism and characteristic of gradient vector flow field is analyzed and the sufficient conditions of GVF in real contour position (zero-field) are constructed. Initial contours keeping 3-5 pixels away from real contour are gotten automatically due to sufficient conditions and approach target contour. Second of all, then extended gradient vector flow is brought to simplify zero-field identification and connection process to low the time complexity. The contents of this paper as follows:First of all, we introduce and compare the methods of image edge detection. Many kinds of multi-objective image segmentation is introduced and analyzed. We summary and review the development and results in image segmentation field.Second of all, we study the GVF snake model in essentials. For the two major causes of time complexity of GVF snake model, we get the mathematical relationship between Time complexity and the two major causes. The result supports the study of reduce the time complexity of GVF snake model. The position of setting initial contour of GVF snake model is researched to provide a basis set for the following initial contour setting.Third of all, this paper studied and analyzes the force field of GVF snake model, the formation mechanism of GVF force field and characteristics of force field. We define the sufficient condition for force field which is on or near the real contours and distinguish three types of special field of the GVF to make foundation on multi-objective image segmentation algorithm.Finally, for multi-objective image segmentation, we design the method to choose and simplify the zero force field based on characteristics of force field and EGVF field and the algorithm of generating the initial contour and approximating. Based on that, we propose multi-objective image segmentation algorithm to solve the problem of multi-objective image segmentation.The simulation results show good performance of multi-objective image segmentation. The suggested method improves the accuracy of extraction, insensitive to noise, reduces the time complexity and allows the users to choose the interesting objects autonomously and has application value in medical images process and remoting sensing images fields.
