Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) system is an automated system consists of software and hardware. It includes several technologies, such as computer, automatic control, electronic, image processing, communication, machinery and so on. With the rapid development of the modern production, AGV has a significant role in speeding up the logistics, reducing costs, shorting the production cycle and enhancing economic efficiency. Therefore, AGV has been more and more widely application.The working principle, classification, structure, application and research of AGV are introduced in detail in this paper, above which, the visual guiding AGV based on embedded control system is designed. The main work and research are as follows:(1) The full system of the AGV is designed. According to the functional requirements and also in order to be fixed and debugged easily, the mechanical structure is designed to be layered. High-performance embedded ARM is used as the core controller, which is powerful and low consumption; In order to be flexible, the visual guiding is adopted; The overall structure is designed both in hardware and software;(2) The hardware of the AGV is designed. The modular design method is used to design the main controller module, vision and image capture module, walking system, delivery system, obstacle avoidance module, man-machine interface module, power module and so on; hardware modules are designed and selected; the integration of hardware modules and the design of some hardware circuits are completed;(3) Zoning control algorithm based on visual guiding is designed;(4) The design of software is completed. The control software of AGV and the software of remote monitor are developed through the platform with embedded Linux operating system. The graphical user interface is developed with Qtopia, including video capture and display module, image processing module, visual guiding module, PWM speed control module, obstacle avoidance module, delivery module, network communication module, remote monitor module and so on, the software is feature-rich and user-friendly.Finally, the system debugging is accomplished, and the desired requirements are achieved.
