Studies show that P2P flows currently account for 60%of all the flows on the Internet.Among all P2P softwares,the most prevailing one is BitTorrent whose flows take the proportion of 50%in all P2P flows.From the aspect of ISP,most of the P2P flows(including BitTorrent) exhibit bad locality,abuse significant egress bandwidth of ISP.Lower level ISPs have to pay higher level ISPs for these flows.As more and more ISPs start to ban P2P,the performance of BitTorrent is heavily degraded,and Internet users complain about the unilateral coersive behavior of ISP.Recent studies focus on how to build cooperation between ISP and BitTorrent to achieve mutual satisfaction.However,this paper proposes a cooperationless approach to solve this problem.Here,cooperationless means no explicit or implicit communication is needed between ISP and BitTorrent.On the one hand,the solution proposed by this paper apply the Indicative ISP Policy at the ISP's side,reduce the BitTorrent traffic volume on the charged links,indicate BitTorrent traffic flows on non-charged links.Experiments show that the Indicative ISP Policy reduces the expenditure of ISP while maintaining the performance of BitTorrent.On the other hand,for BitTorrent's side,this solution deploys GAS Tracker servers which run the Peer Selection Algorithm Based on Global AS View.By constructing a graph of global AS relation view,this algorithm tackles the peer selection problem from the global aspect.Experiments show that this algorithm saves considerable expenditure of ISP,and slightly raise the performance of BitTorrent.When Indicative ISP Policy and GAS Tracker are activated at the same time, there is still no cooperation is needed between ISP and BitTorrent.They boost the effect of each other's algorithm in a cooperationless way.This cooperationless approach resolves the problems such as security and P2P application fraud that exist in cooperative approaches,thus embodies higher feasibility.As is demonstrated by experiments,this approach not only reduces the expenditure of ISP,but also maintains the performance of BitTorrent,achieving win-win of ISP and BitTorrent.
