Augmented Reality is a new comprehensive and muli-disciplinary high technology, which is combined with Computer Graphics, Image Processing, Human-Computer Interaction, Sensor Technology, and owns a wide application foreground. Protecting the historic site is a important field of AR application, AR application has broken the limits of time and space and improved the exhibition effect and efficiency of the cultural heritage of cultural relic, and plays a significant role in protecting the cultural heritage. This article discusses the initial AR application in the cultural heritage field. the following three aspects are mainly discussed:First, AR tracking in artifacts exhibiting, this paper analyse marker-based visual tracking method and marker-less tracking method in the application of artifacts exhibiting.Second, HCI in artifacts exhibiting, including cultural relics for display interface and gesture recognition technology-based interactive approach. The interface's entity module adopts idea of desktop metaphor of GUI. Marker-based visual tracking method and many techniques from graphic drawing and rendering technologies are used. The tracking part of gesture recognition system is a way of visual tracking method by help of markers,Adopted in line with the way the manual model and a variety of cultural relics of the interactive virtual information.Third, this paper adopts methods in usability principles to perform experiential evaluation. and given the results of the evaluation results show that the user interface in the heritage of ease of use better information to achieve a variety of virtual expression; gesture interaction part of the user interface reflects the kind of basic idea, correspond with the cultural model of the habit of observation, the visitors perception of cultural relics have been better reflected. This thesis has explored the related issues exhibiting in museum system based Augmented Reality, which provides reference for the deeper and wider research in field of application of AR to protecting the cultural heritage in future.
