With the rapid development of networking technology, video-communication becomes more and more important in the field of information change. However, due to the heterogeneity of network, the fluctuation of bandwidth and the diversity of terminal equipments, video coding technology is confronted with new challenges. In order to adapt to the change of network environment and the change of client's condition, the compressing video flowing must have temporal scalability, the spatial scalability and the quality scalability. In such circumstances scalable video coding (SVC) emerged. This video coding scheme has many implementation methods. The scalable video coding based on wavelet transformation is an important branch of these methods that develop by leaps and bounds. Especially the scalable video coding based on Motion-Compensated Temporal Filtering (MCTF) becomes a research hotspot due to its superior performance. In this paper, on the existing scalable coding technology research, mainly done to do the following work:Chapters I and II introduced a scalable video encoding application background, the status quo and development trend of the basic wavelet transform at the same time theory briefly described in detail based on wavelet scalable video coding schemes, and gives some of the classical framework. Chapter III in the traditional wavelet transform based on lifting the time-domain filtering scalable video coding scheme based on a proposed new scalable video coding schemes. This program uses 3-band 5/3 Wavelet Lifting for time-domain filtering, compared with 2-band Wavelet Lifting Scheme for better flexibility and time-domain compression performance classification; motion estimation to improve the flexibility of the use of network algorithms, simulation results show that than based on block-matching motion estimation algorithm is more superior performance; frame group and the time-domain decomposition into series using the adaptive algorithm to choose, with the use of fixed-size frame and a fixed time-domain decomposition of the program compared to series a certain degree of performance gain; on the motion vector field to streamline, to some extent, improved the performance of motion vector coding; 3D-EZBC algorithm using three-dimensional subband coding, and analysis of scalable bitstream. Chapter IV of this article coding schemes for the simulation software to verify its airspace, the time domain, quality, scalability, and other programs at the same time the performance comparison of coding schemes in this paper prove that with good compression performance. Chapters V gave a summarized of this study work, and make the outlook at the same time.
