With the rapid development of network and information technology, learning has become a life attitude. Due to the fact that the implementation of teaching activity based on internet has attracted more and more attention from higher vocational colleges and universities, the Ministry of Education has spared no efforts to push forward the network construction of network teaching and excellent teaching resources, which is considered as a part of the plan started in 2006 to build the state model vocational colleges.The present paper expounds how to set up a large network distributed teaching platform which is based on J2EE and suitable for vocational colleges, and elucidates the fundamental principle and thoughts of developing the platform. What is more, the paper designs and expounds the major functional modules, and puts forwards the plan of design and realization. The emphasis is put on the look almost the same of courses website, the public decision supporting system of courses construction, interaction between teachers and students, skills testing and so on.The platform is based on the B/S multi-tiered technological architecture of J2EE, compatible with the large scale distributed deployment and load balance, and able to provide service all day. The browser provides visual graphic for users, while web server responds to the demands of users and provides the demanded data including the data storage, management. The key point is the applied server in the middle, which can improve the efficiency of system development, guarantee the reusability of the service components, and increase the use performance. As a result, it makes the application of the server easier to monitor and manage, and decreases the cost of system maintenance and update.The platform is applied on the basis of Web, and accomplishes interaction between users and system through Web. The system makes use of Oracle9i database, and resorts to JSP and Servlet combined to access the data. In the system, the application of main memory database and Java Cache technology greatly improves the response speed of the system. The system uses Java encryption technology to encrypt the users'information and authentication, and uses the advanced message filtering mechanism to efficiently block the attack from the internet. It assigns users with different roles, independent transaction portal and access property, and guarantees the safety, integrity and consistency of the data.
