Visual simulation is one of most popular research in the study of computer graphic. Recently, it is paid more attention by people, and plays an important part in the field of building, entertainment, aeronautics, military etc. It can provide a good visual environment with visual simulation technique applied to radar system simulation. The process of simulation will be visual and reality. It is significant to improve the realism, credibility and reduce the cost of research.This paper discusses visual simulation model creation, driver, and the application in radar system.First, the key technology of creating 3D models is discussed. According to the simulation project, the database of 3D cultural objects model is created. These objects contain plane, tank, sub, ship, car, road, railway, bridge, airport, city building, etc. The technology of creating 3D terrain model is researched in detail, and four terrain creation algorithms ( Polymesh, Delaunay, TCT, CAT ) are discussed. And the application fields of each algorithm are summarized. A method of creating reality terrain model is proposed, and the step of creating terrain model is described. A terrain model that satisfied the need of simulation is created. According to the simulation project and the actual hardware situation, the methods of model optimization are given. Some criterions of creating model are summarized. With these criterions, the efficiency of creating 3D model and database management are improved.Second, the technology of visual simulation driver based on Vega is discussed in detail. And the step of developing executive program in Vega is given. The model database is massive, it is difficult to display in time. In order to solve this problem, the technique of large database management is introduced. With the method of memory paging, the conflict between reality and real-time is solved. The principle of radar imaging in Vega is analyzed. The result of radar image under different parameter is given out. The simulation of SAR imaging is implemented with matlab and Vega respectively. The way of getting RCS is discussed in Vega emphatically. And the RCS database of scene is build. These researches on radar imaging provide a basis for the radar imaging visual simulation.Finally, a visual simulation system of airborne SAR imaging based on High Level Architecture is implemented. The system frame and program process are given. Then, the simulation environment is introduced and the simulation result is shown.With the visual simulation technology applied in radar simulation, the process and result of radar imaging can be shown dynamically. It is valuable in radar system simulation.
