For traditional Fibre Channel Storage Area Network, because the servers need to connect traditional LAN(Local Area Network) and SAN(Storage Area Network), one server needs at least one HBA(Host Bus Adaptor) card and one NIC(Network Interface Card) card. As the growth of storage capacity and data stream, the number of I/Os for servers increases very rapidly, so the power consumption and the costs for cooling become higher. So a new technology named Fibre Channel over Ethernet(FCoE) come into existence. FCoE merges the traditional LAN and SAN, reducesthe number of cable and adapters, decreases the main power consumption and cooling cost. This makes the technology of FCoE become hot for SAN.FCoE switches connect traditional Fibre Channel SAN and hosts, storage device, serves and switches which have FCoE adapters. They realize traditional connections between FC-SANs and FCoE nodes.This paper analyzes the consolidation technology about FCoE and Lossless Ethernet.And the mapping technology about fibre channel and ethernet.The key is the encapsulation from FC frames to FCoE.This paper describes the whole detail about login procession between ENode and FCF.This provides the theoretical foundation for FCoE realization.This paper analyzes FCoE protocol, and realizes the link setup between Virtual F port and Virtual N port. It also designs and realizes the communication for reading and writing data steams between FCoE initiator and FC target as well as FC initiator and FCoE target based on FPGA board. It realizes the function as a simple FCoE switch model and sets up the environment for test.
