The concept of virtual instrument is a breakthrough of the traditional concept in instrument. It puts the measuring instruments and personal computers to work together, and uses the latest computer software technology to achieve the traditional function and the expansion. This project developed a high-speed data acquisition card based on the PCI Extensions for Instrumentation (PXI) bus, which maked full use of the computer's powerful capabilities and rich resources. It not only implemented the traditional oscilloscope functions but also improved the performance of data processing and display. It expaned the functions of synchronization and communication between different instruments, at the same time greatly reduced the equipment cost.This paper discusses the development trend of virtual instruments and its impact on testing technology, researches the development history of virtual instrument driver as well as the VXI Plug&Play specification (VPP) and Interchangeable Virtual Instrument (IVI) specifications. This dissertation presents a data acquisition module's basic working principle and the design of the driver and its soft panel.The project uses the Field Programmable Gates Array (FPGA) to realize high-speed data acquisition, complicated trigger function, and storing control. The design uses PXI to implement high-speed data transmission and synchronization between different modules.We selected LabWindows/CVI as the development environment to develop the instrument driver and the soft panel, and also the simulation functions to help users to develop their own testing procedures and testing system platform.The test results indicate that this data acquisition module has high-speed data acquisition and transmission functions, and that the driver implements the equipment control and operation and the data analysis and display capabilities. So it can meet the user's high-speed signal acquisition and processing requirements.
