Analysis. Community Newspaper In China's Development

Community newspaper is both a new and a hot topic in Chinese press industry in recent years. To survive fierce competition, metropolis newspapers have either issued new community newspaper or at least have some "community news" sections. Some professionals argue that community newspaper is one of the trends in Chinese press industry.Community newspapers originally came from the West. Its development and popularity in Western society has something to do with the unique economic, social and cultural conditions. Similarly, the recent emerging community newspaper practice in China benefits from as well as is limited by Chinese unique economic, social and cultural conditions. These factors altogether will eventually mold the unique appearance of Chinese community press industry.Besides of some introduction of Western community press theory and practice, plus some description of Chinese community press development so far, the thesis highlighted the unique "content strategy" and "function positioning strategy" of community newspapers with the example of xinmin evening daily·community newspaper. In addition, this thesis presented some argument about what are the outside and inside factors which might limit further development of Chinese community newspapers.The thesis concluded that overall, community newspaper is a "new thing" which conforms to regulations and thus, although now it is still in the phase of trial and experiment, it can expect to enjoy a bright future.
