The Role Of Process-based Mining - Activity Diagram Modeling

Workflow management is an effective method for lifting working efficiency and executive quality based on computer technology. Process modeling is an important part of workflow management. Common modeling methods base mainly on activity, product, objective or decision. Activity based process model is composed of process activities and their dependencies, where process optimization is achieved by analyzing the value of an activity and by adjusting logical dependencies among them. This method emphasizes mainly on the execution of activity. Compared with the activity oriented process model, role oriented process model emphasizes on the role, which is the most active element in workflow, and the interactions between roles. This type of process model is given increasing emphasis now. However, current role oriented process model remains subjective in identifying roles in process model. Workflow mining is a technique that reconstructs process model on the basis of workflow log. This method is used to identify roles, so that the role identification can be as objective as possible.On the basis of a deep study of role based workflow model, a new role-oriented workflow modeling method is proposed by adopting process mining method. The similarity in the content of workflow participants is used as the measurement for role identification. Sub-process with high level of similarity is recognized as the process undertook by a certain role, thus a relatively objective role identification method is achieved. The social network among participants is analyzed to determine the interaction between roles, and a Role-Activity Diagram based process model is defined. After this, participants with similar interaction with other roles are grouped into one role by analyzing the interaction between roles. Therefore the role identification method is optimized by using generic algorithm, which includes multiple factors in role identifying process. By then the interaction between roles in this RAD model can reflect main interactions between participants undertaking the role, and the RAD based workflow modeling is optimized.
