The paper based on the research of TV tracker, which is part of the "Air trajectory optics measurement system" project. TV tracker plays an important role in photoelectrical tracking and measuring equipment. The system can process the video signal from the camera, computing the target deviation and transmitting the target deviation to the control computer in real-time.Aiming at the characteristics of large data,high processing speed of TV tracker, and limited processing time, combine with the advanced technology and apparatus, a new real-time TV tracker based on DSP and FPGA which can make the objects captured fast is introduced in this paper. The system adopts TI's high performance DSP TMS320C6416 as the processing core unit to realize many tracking arithmetic, such as all-video-field, core, edge and correlation, which can give the target deviation in the interval of the two frames; the video capture unit, the video pre-processing unit, and the video display unit are implemented in the FPGA which acts as a coprocessor; PC104 is used to transmit the target deviation to control computer and receive orientation,pitching and timing from the control computer.The paper advances a arithmetic of fast median filter based on FPGA, which solve the shortcomings of the tradition median filter in the video pre-processing; High data throughput is achieved by utilizing a glueless interface between DSP and FPGA; By using the EDMA channel linking mechanism of DSP, this system can transport video data from FPGA unit to L2 cache without CPU interference, thus improving the performance and diminishing the burden of the system.The experiment demonstrates that TV tracker is much easier than the former DSP platform for fulfilling the real-time requirement in carrying out complicated algorithm and multi-target extraction, enhancing the integer performance.
