In the military and civilian fields, it is the main trend to improve range resolution for the modern radar. It is significant to improve target detection accuracy, multi-target distinguishing, target imaging and identification that researching high- resolution radar signal mode and its relevant signal processing method. Stepped frequency pulse (SFP) is a kind of large time width and bandwidth signal with good range resolution performance. Besides, it can be realized to work under the narrow-band transmitter and receiver for its relative narrow instantaneous bandwidth. So SFP is the utility high-resolution signal mode because of its easy engineering operation. DAR which based on Tx/Rx fully DBF technique is the new type phase control radar with quite new system and advanced performance, but its inherent limitation is available while DAR with wideband signal processing. With the research to the SFP and its processing mode, this paper analyzes and presents the application of SFP in the tactical DAR. The main contents and key breakthroughs in this paper include:1,Study and analysis on the type and signature of wideband radar signal;2,Analysis and introduction to the operational principle and signal processing means for stepped frequency pulse.3,Discussion on such key issues as target extraction and velocity compensation in the signal processing of stepped frequency pulse.4,Provision of field applications of stepped frequency pulse in tactical radar and the simulation results.There are five chapters in this paper. The definition and several mode of wide-band radar signal are briefly described in the first chapter, and the signification of subject researching as well. The principle and performance of SFP is discussed in chapter 2. In the third chapter, several key problems about SFP technique are completely analyzed. The application of SFP in tactical DAR is discussed in chapter 4. The application of SFP is summarized in the fifth chapter, and the expectation on the SFP development is also presented.
