3D laser imaging is a method that synthesizes the target image by laser echo 2D distribution and range information. 3D laser radar is useful in military applications becaues 3D image contains more target information than 2D image. It can contribute to recognition target characteristic.Imaging laser radar is the ideal target detection and measurement equipment for low altitude flying object.It provides high resolution range image for Auto Target Recognition (ATR). Laser radar system simulation is the result of laser radar technology and computer digital simulation technology, which is a new method to design laser radar system and is a future research trend.Before designing the laser radar system, we have to understand the relationship of laser transmitter variable and laser receiver variable. The operating distance of a laser radar system is determined on pulse energy, pulse width, beam divergence angular, atmosphere attenuation, target reflection, receiver sensitivity and so on. Active imaging laser radar can product high resolution range image and intensity image, and can be used in precision guilding, terrain navigation and obstacle avoidance. Besides operating distance, imageing rate, image pixel and field of view are also considered.Laser radar system performance is researched in this dissertation. The laser radar equation of SNR is developed. We researched the relationship of range & SNR, dectection probablity & SNR and target pixels & range. The curve is computed to simulate the affect of environment and system parameter on laser radar performance.We delved into laser radar simulation model. The syetem model we set upinclude target module, laser soure module, transmition & reflection module receiver module and image processing module. We analysed the considered facters and main simulation parameters. The simulation model is programmed in MATLAB language.In the end, the detail simulation steps are introduced. This programm simulated the whole process from laser transmitting to laser receiving. Simulation of beam propagation, pixel and image are showed respectively. System simulation is a method to find the problems in a system. The problems are studyed by simulation.The simualtion result suggests that this program can model the key characteristic of imaging laser radar, but needs a verificaton of the experimental data. The following work is modifying the laser radar simulation model according to the experimental data.
