Distributed Electronic Resources Management And Services Research

The rapid growth in the number of electronic resources on the Internet brought many new problems with the development of computer technology.On the one hand,due to the rapid growth of the number of electronic resources and the number of huge,how to effectively manage them has become a prominent problem gradually.On the other hand,as the information of electronic resources is much rich,and the type is various,how to help users to discover and effective access to resources has also become a research problem. Currently some solutions of electronic resources management are mainly considered for a single type of electronic resources,such as e-journals, e-books,or audio and video files,etc.Usually,the object studied of such solutions is much clear,and the corresponding research products are relatively mature and stable.But very often,users may need to access some interrelated information resources which are different types about a theme. This needs to regroup the various types of electronic resources(such as e-books,pictures,video,etc.)according to certain themes and write a detailed description of information,so as to reveal resources better.The main task of this paper is to study how to regroup,manage,and reveal the various types of electronic resources effectively and to provide services for users in distributed network.In the course of the study,the author of this paper started mainly from two aspects of the theory and practice.In theory,the author identified the object of study-- Digital Collection at first,and secondly the author also began a more detailed analysis of the survey for some related work, such as collection,collection description metadata,and electronic resource management system.On this basis,the author studied and offered an electronic resources management and services research solution as to digital collection,which used a distributed storage architecture strategy, supported resources management operation for multi-user in LAN,and covered the entire life cycle of digital collection.Specific features include:(1)Management Operation,focused on several management operations as to digital collection,such as creation,editing,cataloging,sent, withdrawal,delete,and backup,as well as systems management, authorization management,storage management,etc.(2)Services and Support,focused on how to support the authorized users to access,subscript,retrieve,download,and evaluate the resources.In practice,the author developed and implemented an electronic resource management system as to 'digital collection' according to the solution, named Eman.Different from some of electronic resources management systems existed,there are some following characteristics in Eman:①The object studied is digital collection;②System uses distributed storage architecture to support multi-user concurrent operation management,and it has strong scalability and high flexibility;③System uses a set of standardized metadata description solution,which has a certain adaptability;④System supports various management operations for the digital collection,and provides users related services,which has strong application.Some practice shows,Eman can easily group all types of electronic resources together on related subjects,presents users in the form of collection,and has strong application and certain innovative.
