The detection of conceal targets using impulse radar has become one of the hottest areas of the development of radar technology. No matter ground penetrating radar aiming to detecting underground targets or new style radar focusing on concealed targets in forest-cluttered environments, both are with extremely important military meanings and expansive foreground in civil applications.In this dissertation, the author's work contains optimizing the performance of our original impulse radar system exploring underground targets. Based on these techniques, new impulse radar system and a state-of-the-art imaging method have been developed. According to the experimental results, this new method could successfully detect and image targets over the ground, especially targets concealed in forest-cluttered environments.In this paper, the performance of the original impulse radar system has been deeply improved according to the thoughts of parallel and direct memory access techniques. We firstly introduce Electromagnetic Time Reversal Mirror (EMTRM) method which is based on the principle of reciprocity for conceal targets imaging in domestic and achieve the work of imaging concealed single and/or multi-targets in forest-cluttered environment by using the impulse radar experimental platform designed and implemented all by ourselves. Further more, several key technical points of this new EMTRM technique have been analyzed and synthesized according to experimental results.The main contribution and innovation of this dissertation are summarized as following:1. A new signal flow of radar system is designed and regenerated. This new one based on the thought of parallel could improve the efficiency of radar system markedly.2. A new software module focusing on the application of the bottom of radar system has been designed and realized. This module that is programmed on the firmware and/or logic units could speed data transmission and optimize the radar performance. 3. Time Reversal Mirror (TRM) arithmetic is transplanted to the field of electromagnetic detections, furthermore, the reborn one is proposed and could detect concealed targets successfully.4. A new concept named focus frame and the way how to determine it have been proposed while studying the key issues of the new electromagnetic time reversal mirror arithmetic.5. Several exploring experiments aiming to detect concealed targets have been carried out, such as multi-targets detection, imaging infection impacted by the antenna tail and so on.
