With the development of image processing technique, the automatic inspection technology based on image processing has been applied in more and more fields, such as military, aviation, medical equipment and industrial automation, etc.. The automatic detection of liquid volume and impurities of bottled liquid in assembly line has been an important direction in automatic inspection. Compared with conventional automatic inspection in liquid volume and impurities, the advantages of image processing are non invasive, capable of quickly inspecting,and laborsaving. The inspection method of liquid volume and impurities under background light and laser illumination was introduced in this thesis, which involve in special algorithms for liquid volume and impurities,that laid the foundation for follow-up work. The experimental programs was presented that show how to inspect liquid volume and impurities by Image acquisition with CCD.The principle of the CCD is introduced and the CCD of MVC1000M used in the project and the application example developed with firm's SDK library are also presented. Additionally, the software development platform Visual Studio.Net and the object-oriented software development techniques are described. The basic concepts, theories, and methods of image processing technique are introduced. Especially,the edge detection, image contour extraction and corrosion expansion are key procedures. Based on the image processing technique,the image processing arithmetic is performed in the actual application. Under laser illumination, the image features was analyzed and the liquid volume and impurities was detected with pretreatment image.The inspecting arithmetic for the liquid volume and impurities of the bottled liquid has been studied with the image processing technique. The arithmetic is applied in large number of experiments, and the results shows desirable. New arithmetic in edge contour tracking and impurities detecting are conducted in this works. The works are essential for further researches on measurements of liquid volume and impurities in the bottled liquid.
