The excellent performance of frequency up-converter plays a key role in microwave systems. This dissertation investigates the theory and design of the microwave frequency up-conversion devices. The main purpose of this article is producing an up-conversion devices. The major job is manufacturing a microwave transmitter with the frequency up-converter, which converts the S-band signal to Ku-band as consumer demanded. A low frequency oscillator, performing very well in phase noise, is employed as the local oscillator of the proposed system. The Ku-band signal is obtained after four times of frequency doubling. Because the designed device is supposed to work in a frequency synthesizer as a frequency source, it is rigorous for the clutter suppression performance. At first,we introduced the development of up-converter system and its application. Then we analyse the circle by software to decide which component to use.The signal of local oscillator is directly multiple up-converted by using the MMIC, then a band-pass filter is used to avoid the harmonic of 5LO.After analyzing the system by software,we put an attenuator in the RF input port in the consider of making the mixer work in linear area. In the output port we use a filter-amplifier-filter response link which can simplify the design of single bandbass filter. The measurement result demonstrates that the output power is up to 11dBm, while has a sub-harmonic suppression up to 60dBc,the designed system is satisfied in all targets. At last we point out the defects of the design and provide some method to improve.
