Fiber gratings have played a key role in various fields of optical communications to ensure easy-to-upgrade, reconfigurable intelligent all-optical networks in the future. This dissertation has launched an in-depth theoretical research on the characteristics of sampled fiber gratings and the case in which they are used as the external cavity of a semiconductor laser. This paper includes the following aspects:The coupled mode theory, the transfer matrix method and Fourier transform method have been used to analyze sampled fiber gratings and their spectral characteristics have been simulated, from which it is known that the reflection spectrum of sampled fiber gratings is not balanced and its envelope is a Sinc function.In order to solve this problem, a Sinc sampled fiber grating (i.e. Sinc apodizing function) is introduced. The spectra of Sinc sampled fiber grating not only have basic characteristics of spectra of common sampled fiber gratings, but also can eliminate the sidelobes of common sampled fiber gratings, and can choose the number of spectral channels.The semiconductor lasers with sampled fiber gratings as its external cavity have been studied. And semiconductor lasers with a common sampled fiber grating cavity and a Sinc sampled fiber grating cavity have been simulated with a computer for the first time respectively. The wavelength dependences of their output power have been gained. Finally, The tuning temperature dependence of output power spectra of a semiconductor laser with Sinc sampled fiber grating cavity has been analyzed. Because only the external cavity of semiconductor lasers is replaced, the simulation results are reliable.The results of this paper can provide an instructive insight into the output characteristics of sampled fiber gratings and are expected to give some help to the future theoretical and experimental study on semiconductor lasers with sampled fiber grating cavity.
