With the development of computer technology and global networks to speed up the process, information security issues is facing unprecedented challenges. Biometric identification technology is a technology which combines information technology with biotechnology. It uses the human body's physical characteristics or behavioral characteristics for identification. Biometric identification technology is safer and more reliable than the traditional identification technology, and provides a good solution to the information security issues. Biometric technology will be widely used in the future national security, financial issues, social welfare, e-commerce and other fields, with incalculable potential for development.Palm prints, as one of the biological characteristics used to identification, has the unique advantages of abundant amount of information, clear and stable characteristics, low-cost systems, receives people's more and more attention. Palm prints recognition technology has attracted more and more teams around the world to take part in this research. A lot of new technologies and new methods associated with this technology continue to emerge.In this paper, based on an in-depth study of palm prints' specific characteristics and the related knowledge of palm prints identification system, we proposed a series of image processing and relevant feature extraction algorithms for palm prints. Besides, we established a real set of palm prints recognition system base on the related algorithms. The content of this paper presented as following:In Chapter 1, first we introduced the development and classification of modern automatic identification technology. Several common automatic identification technologies were briefly introduced. Then especially, we detailed introduced biometric technology in terms of its research and development status quo, advantages and disadvantages of several existing common biometric technology, and the evaluation standard of biometric identification systems. In Chapter 2, through the structural characteristics and advantages of palm prints, the basic identification processing of palm prints, the acquisition technologies of palm prints images, and the development status quo of palm prints' research, we detailed described about palm prints identification technology.In Chapter 3, the basic principle and technical characteristics of a time-frequency combined two-stage match algorithm for palm prints was presented. We mainly described the algorithm of frequency domain characteristics' extraction, the line feature extracting algorithms and their corresponding feature matching algorithms.In Chapter 4, we expounded the establishment of our palm prints identification system. The system mainly includes palm prints image acquisition device and the corresponding recognition software.In Chapter 5, we have done some experimental research based on our palm prints recognition system, and the experimental results were showed and analyzed in this chapter. In addition, we have designed and built a simple access control system using the palm prints recognition system.Chapter 6 was the conclusion and prospect of our research work.The main innovation and research work in this paper summarized as following:1. In aspect of theory, for the first time, we proposed the new time-frequency combined two-stage match algorithm for palm prints recognition. The frequency characteristics and line feature of palm prints were extracted and matched respectively, and then the two matching results were carried out an "And" operation to achieve the final match result.2. For the first time, we established the practical palm prints identification system based on the time-frequency combined two-stage match algorithm. The whole system contains two main parts: the image acquisition device and the corresponding software. The entire system can meet the requirements of real-time identification.3. We have developed a practical palm prints identification system. The system can acquire the real-time image of the palm prints. And it can achieve the functions of extracting the effective region, related image preprocessing, palm prints feature extraction, feature matching, and some assistant functions. Furthermore, we developed the user interface, it can do auto user information registration, user identification and authentication.4. We have done the experimental verification and analysis based on our system, and established a small palm prints template library.5. We have designed and set up a simple access control system based on the palm prints recognition system.
