At present the simulation technology are getting more and more in military field's application, the simulation process involves massive models and data, Therefore,the research about model_base and database are becoming more and more important in simulation domain. The purpose of this paper is to research the establishment of 3D model base for weapons, to develop a Management System for 3D models, and to resolve the problems about 3D model's transmission and conversion. The progress we get is as follows:(1)Summery the history of the research of simulation model base, discusses the present situation about model base and database research.(2)Through researching the classification method of weapons, we establish a model base of weapons, this model base includes the weapon's parameters, the pictures of weapons, and the 3D models of weapons.(3)We studied some kinds of 3D files, through this research; we developed a conversion interface of 3D Graphic Data. This conversion interface of 3D Graphic Data can read and render five kinds of 3D files by the OpenGL Graphic Library. We also studied the technology of 3D model's feature extraction.(4)We studied the outline and the components of the model base management system, at last we developed a model base management system, which can effectively manage and control the weapon models in this model base. This model base management system can also provide 3D models and other data to some simulation application program.We studied the communication method between the model base management system and simulation application program. At last we developed an interface program for the communication between the model base management system and simulation application.
