Location Services (lcs) In The S12 Mobile Switch

In recent years, Mobile communication system becomes more and more important in the world. After several years of construction, China Mobile and China Unicom have their own intact No.7 signalling network and local/toll telephone network. The mobile customers can roam and handover nearly all over the country. For the two companies, the further step is to improve the quality of the network and supply more supplementary services.Now, the supplementary service can be realized in two methods: first, the new service can be built on the Mobile Intelligent Network; second, the MSC support new service via the software upgrade. ALCATEL decided to develop LCS to reach the market requirement with ALCATEL1000 S12 CLM10 project and used specially in China market.The definition and comprehension of interface messages between the mobile network elements about LCS is focused on this thesis, especially about the realization of LCS function in S12 MSC. The GSM system structure is firstly introduced. Chapter2 introduced hardware and software structure, function and business of ALCATEL1000 S12. Chapter3 describes the basic concept of LCS. Chapter4 describes the interface messages between the network elements and the software module in S12, emphasizes on the structure design of BSSAP. At the end, summarized the R&D work which has been done and looks forward to the prospect of the mobile communication system market.
